Fair Manager 2019 – Spring.1883

SPRING1883 is a young and exciting hotel-based boutique art fair that draws on the traditions of the Gramercy Park Fair, New York to present the best of contemporary art practice from Australia, New Zealand and beyond. The sixth iteration of SPRING1883 will be held at The Establishment, Sydney from 11-14 September 2019.

SPRING1883 at The Establishment will see 24 leading national and international commercial galleries present solo projects, group exhibitions and performances across the entirety of the 4-level hotel, including the two Penthouse suites.

Byron Arts Magazine – Art Series Dinner Launch

The launch of the BAM art series dinner was hosted at BARRIO, Byron Bay in October, 2018 with talented Indigenous artist, Michael Cook. Major works from the series Mother, Broken Dreams and Invasion were exhibited. Art critic and writer Louise Martin Chew spoke with Michael about his practice which re-stage colonial focused histories and re-imagine the contemporary reality of indigenous populations. Guests enjoyed a delicious shared table menu with matching wines curated by Argentinean chef, Francisco Smoje.

Byron Arts Magazine – Art Series Dinner

Guests joined renowned Australian artist, Janet Laurence for an exclusive evening of  conversation, food and art at Pack Gallery, Bangalow on Saturday, April 27, 2019. A highlight of the evening was a talk hosted by Lee Mathers from Northern Rivers Community Gallery who discussed Janet’s passion for nature and her art. The Sydney artist’s work is currently the subject of a major survey show, Janet Laurence: After Nature, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. A botanic tasting experience was curated by TOWN Restaurant, accompanied by organic wines and a Brooke’s gin cocktail.

Martin Browne Contemporary  

Gallery Manager for Martin Brown Contemporary pop up gallery in Woollahra, Sydney.

Paddington based gallerist, Martin Browne launched a pop up gallery in Queen Street, Woollahra, previously occupied by Giorgio Armani Junior.  The re-imagined space featured curated group shows from the galleries stable of artists.

NAB Private Wealth – Dale Frank Dinner

NAB Private clients were invited to an exclusive dinner at the Establishment with renowned Australian artist Dale Frank. A highlight of the evening was a talk with Dale, hosted by Neon Parc gallerist, Geoff Newton. Frank’s practice has spanned more than 3 decades encompassing a variety of media, he is best known for his biomorphic abstract works which challenge traditional notions of painting.

An evening with Polly Borland and Tony Clark – November, 2016

Members and guests were invited to enjoy an exclusive advance preview of Polly Borland and Tony Clark’s highly-anticipated solo exhibitions at Sullivan + Strumpf Sydney, followed by an intimate Q&A, hosted by Gillian Serisier, where we delved a little deeper into the evolution of the artists’ individual practices, long-term collaboration and friendship.

 

Orange Weekend away -  October, 2016

Members departed Sydney on the Saturday for a stop off at the chalet of David Middlebrook. We visited Bathurst regional gallery for a private tour of the Anne Graham survey show then on to Orange for an amazing lunch at the home and studio of David and Gillian Serisier.

Contemporaries members were welcomed into the creative couple’s private home and given a behind-the-scenes look into their artistic lives and practices.

Young Guns of Landscape - Guy Maestri, Luke Sciberras and Robert Malherbe a new generation of landscape painters spoke candidly about their work in a magical landscape setting. 

Giorgio Armani – August, 2015

Guests were invited to an exclusive in store event to celebrate the launch of the new Giorgio Armani collection. Drawing on Armani’s commitment to contemporary art guests experienced an exhibition of works and intimate live conversation and evening with acclaimed artist Del Kathryn Barton.

Curator and writer Alison Kubler hosted an insightful and entertaining conversation with Del, Kubler highlighting the importance of collaborations between high fashion and contemporary art throughout history, sighting Mr Armani’s fashion museum in Milan.
